Travel Tips

Getting to Berlin

Flying in: Berlin Willy Brandt Airport (BER), it's finally real!
If you're travel internationally, you can also fly to Frankfurt (FRA) airport and take a 5 hour train to Berlin.

From BER the FEX Express train quickly and conveniently takes you into the city.

Taking the train: Frequent trains are available to Berlin from all German and many major European cities. Look for Berlin Hauptbahnhof (central station).

Getting around the city

We love the public transit options here and would recommend using them ❤️

  • Tickets: To purchase tickets, you can use physical machines at the stations, or use one of the following apps: Jelbi or BVG Fahr-info app.
Remember: Physical tickets must be stamped at a machine to be valid.

  • Directions: We recommend using Jelbi or Citymapper to look up directions. Google Maps work just fine most of the time as well.

  • Mobility options: You can also use Jelbi to grab a bike, a scooter, or even a short-term rental car.

The wedding celebration is just 2 minutes from Hallesches Tor U-Bahn station. It is conveniently reachable on the U1, U3 and U6.

Things to do

If you have a few extra days, there is plenty to do in Berlin, regardless of weather! We've compiled our recommendations as lists on Google Maps: Museums & Sights.

We like to spend time at these spots:

  • Parks: Treptower park, Tiergarten, Tempelhofer Feld, Victoria Park… Fall is a great time to stroll around in parks.

  • Markets: our go-to is the farmers' market at Boxhagener Platz because it's right in our hood but there're plenty others throughout the city

  • Museums: our favorites are Museum Der Dinge (museum of things!) and the Humboldt Forum (fascinating history of public space transformation)

Accomodation

Berlin is very well connected, even late into the night, so feel free to stay in any neighborhood. Popular choices are Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Neukölln, but Mitte and Schöneberg are also great.

If you are looking for an easy hotel option The Yard is just a short walk from the venue or Michelberger a short U-Bahn ride.

Beyond hotel platforms and AirBnB you can also consider flat sharing via Kindred (here is our invite code).

Note: October 3rd is a public holiday in Germany, so some places may get booked up earlier.

Bars

There are plenty great places, from down-to-earth Kneipe to high-end cocktail bars. Our full list of bar recommendations can be found here.

Our top favorites are:

  • Sohnemann for great cocktails with chill vibes

  • Velvet for next level creativity and craftsmanship - a bit fancier but really worth it

  • Hops and Barley for our favorite neighborhood brewery (Qiqi famously doesn't not like beer but she likes this place soooo it says a lot :)

Restaurants & cafes

Here's our list of recs but it's most definitely not exhaustive! The city has amazing culinary options.

For coffee we especially like Blaue Bohne (roasted in our neighborhood) and Five Elephant.

For restaurants we won't list top favorites because there are simply too many :)

Make sure to carry cash with you as many places still are cash-only.
